dominik's question:
Why did Frederick the Great build Sans Souci residence in Potsdam?(give a different answer) .
Sans Souci means "without worries", as he intended it as a retreat place, even better when he could get rid of his wife, Elizabeth. At the same time, the Prussian King Frederick II wanted the palace to rival the one Versailles in extravagance and design. His plans didn't really work out, as it appears as a one-story building, very long, with a central dome flanked by two pavilions. Perhaps the gardens are the only successful, covering 1 sq mile.
