The Cologne Dom, a huge cathedral

Posted 1 year ago by avatar marcelus in response to avatar charb's question: What's the monument you think of when you say Koln? (give a different answer) .

Piece of cake. It's the Dom, a French Gothic cathedral, symbol of Prussia's dream of unification. The erection began in the 13th century, and was completed in 1880...so imagine the grandeur. After you manage to rehabilitate your mouthstiffness, you should go inside to admire the stained glass windows portraying the Virgin and St. Peter, as well as the Magi's Shrine. For a fitness fix and a stunning view, go climb the 509 steps of the southern tower. On your way up, you'll also meet Peter Bell, a 24-tonne bell, and actually the biggest functioning one in the world.
